St. James Court Art Show is one of the oldest, largest, and most impressive Art Fairs in the nation. Founded by local artists in 1957 as a way to save neighborhood landmarks, the show now accommodates 750 international artists and approximately 300,000 guests each year. In 2012, ART+FM was invited to broadcast during the St. James Court Art Show to provide live coverage the event and the many important artists and visitors it attracts. The ART+FM studio was installed on Thursday, October 4th in the Executive Offices of the St. James Court Art Show. Live coverage began at 10 AM, Friday October 5th and ran through the duration of the festival. Fifteen volunteer ART+FM DJs, each with unique stills and aesthetics, provided an entertaining mix of music, news, and show updates from 10 AM to 7 PM for the three days of the event. From October 5 to October 7th, International audiences were given access to the St. James Court Art Show through the live stream available on www.artxfm.com. During the broadcast, ART+FM had phone calls and facebook posts coming in from many distant locations including New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Merida, Mexico. In addition to on-air conversations with St. James organizers such as Executive Director Marguerite Esrock, ART+FM correspondents captured interviews with many exhibiting artists, festival attendees, and neighborhood dignitaries. These will be available on this webpage in the near future. Likewise, ART+FM broadcast a number of in-studio performances including a set by radio artists Douglass Lucas and Aaron West on Indeterminate Transmissions and a breathtaking vocal feat by The Redden Family on Vocalease (listen above). To compliment to the live performances and event reports, the international audience was entertained with a wide range of music that covered everything from blues to jazz, from pop to punk rock. In short, there was something for everyone on the ART+FM live broadcast from the St. James Court Art Show. It was an honor and a pleasure brining this historic neighborhood event into the homes and personal devices of listeners all over the world! |
