VOICES OF VALOR Library of Congress Veterans History Project Voices of Valor is a radio program dedicated to sharing the personal narratives of U.S. military veterans featured in the Library of Congress Veterans History Project. Through this program, listeners will hear powerful first-person accounts from veterans of all branches and eras, shedding light on their experiences, challenges and triumphs. Episodes will feature interviews, best practices for interview the veteran in your life and curated stories from the Veterans History Project archive, preserving and honoring the legacy of those who served. Join us the first Monday of each month for a journey through history, as told by the veterans who lived it, on Voices of Valor. Harry Williams Center for Oral History, LSU Libraries Susan Caolo, Antropologist and Volunteer with the Veterans History Project *************************************** ![]() VOICES OF VALOR: EPISODE 5 Sargent Major U.S. Army (retired) Sarita Dyer Susan Caolo, Anthropologist & VHP Volunteer Sergeant Major (ret) Sarita Dyer served nearly three decades of faithful service to our country. Sarita went onto a very productive and exciting career while serving in a multitude of leadership positions across the globe. Also, a two-time bronze star award combat veteran serving in four combat campaigns. She worked arduously to earn a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science; a Master of Science in Environmental Management and a proud alumina of The George Washington University where she earned her second master’s in Legislative Affairs. Sarita achieved the highest enlisted rank of Sergeant Major with culminating assignments serving as a Congressional Fellow for US Senator of New York, SEN Kristin Gillibrand and a Legislative Liaison for Secretary of the US Army. Currently, Sarita resides with husband, CSM (retired) Kerry Dyer, in McDonough, GA where she enjoys motherhood to four adult children and two grandchildren. She continues to serve her community as a Board Member and Inductee for Georgia Military Veteran Hall of Fame, American Legion Post 516-member, Mentor for Veteran Treatment Court. Her hobbies include shopping, cooking, exercising, and cheering on the Pittsburg Steelers to a seventh Superbowl win. *************************************** VOICE OF VALOR: PILOT EPISODE THE HOT SHOT FROM DULUTH Inspiration for ARTxFM's involvement with the Veteran's History Project came from GEORGE WALLACE FOX and his remarkable stories from his time in the Navy during the Pacific Theater of World War II. GEORGE FOX: Hot Shot from Duluth ![]() George Wallace Fox of Duluth, Minnesota appears in the WXOX 97.1 FM studio to discuss his international Naval adventures including work on the Ore Boats in Duluth, Minnesota and aboard the USS Vulcan in the Pacific Theater of the Second World War. *************************************** ![]() INTERVIEW: VETERANS HISTORY PROJECT, LIBRARY OF CONGRESS CONFLICT TO CREATIVITY Lisa Taylor, Library of Congress Veterans History Project AnnMarie Halterman, Uniting Us On June 3, 2022 ART FM spoke with Lisa Taylor, Senior Liaison Specialist at the Libary of Congress Veterans History Project and AnnMarie Halterman, Founder of the nonprofit organization Uniting Us to share information about the Conflict to Creativity veteran artist showcase happening at the Libarary of Congress this summer June 28 - 30th in recognition of Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) Awareness Month. This event -- which will take place in person and online -- will focus on art as a tool of healing and will feature exhibitions, discussions, and demonstrations by Veteran Artists. ART FM is presently conducting audio interviews which we will donate to the Library of Congress where they will become part of the Veterans History Project's permanent collection. In this way, the personal accounts of our veterans will be accessible and well preserved so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and have a better understanding of what they did, saw, and felt.
